Ultreia Cova de la Raposa is a red wine made in the D.O. Bierzo by Raul Pérez in Valtuille de Abajo, León.
Raúl Pérez has been one of the forerunners of the area and the Mencía grape. Born in Valtuille, he took the reins of the family winery to start a meteoric career in the wine world, becoming an adviser to wineries all over the world.
Ultreia Cova de la Raposa is a wine from a single prefiloxerica plot planted mainly with Mencía (85%), Garnacha Tintorera, Bastardo and others. The soils are sandy-calcareous sloping and facing south.
Ultreia Cova de la Raposa fermented in 500 liter barrels with the whole bunch with its own yeasts, allowing it to macerate for 90 days. Subsequently, it is racked and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels.
The exceptional vineyard, the long maceration with its skins and its subsequent aging make it a complex and complete red wine. Only 500 bottles of this large payment are made annually.
