The November 24, 2015, the Mojama of Barbate has been finally entered in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI) of the European Union. This has been published in section 1.7 `fish, molluscs and crustaceans and products derivados' Official Journal of the European Union.
Protected Geographical Indication Mojama of Barbate is the first IGP granted in the world for this type of product. It also joins a select list of more than 1,300 food products covered under these Community quality brands. PGI recognized the organoleptic qualities acquired by a product due to its geographical origin
